In 1993, somewhere in France, pianist Ray Bryant stepped to the stage and dazzled an audience with over an hour of solo piano steeped in the American jazz, blues and gospel tradition. The sound engineer had popped a tape into the soundboard deck and recorded the entire concert. This pristine recording was presented to Ray after the show, only to wind up in Ray's closet with a pile of other cassettes given to him over his career. It was discovered years later by record producer Joel Dorn, hunting for unreleased "live" music. Released as Somewhere In France, this solo piano recording is so alive and crystal clear, you might think Ray was sitting in your living room performing in person. The jazz great delves into personal concert staples such as "Slow Freight" and "Blues in G/Willow Weep For Me," while breaking out seldom-performed standards "Good Morning Heartache" and "When I Look In Your Eyes."
