A Love Song For Bobby Long, starring John Travolta and Scarlett Johansson, is the poignant story of a wayward girl and two men, each scarred by their pasts, who struggle to mend their broken lives and create a home together in a forgotten section of New Orleans. In conjunction with Lion's Gate Films nationwide release on January 22, 2005, HYENA Records will make available the film's one of a kind soundtrack. It features previously unreleased music by John Travolta, Grayson Capps and Theresa Anderson, as well as, songs by Los Lobos, Nada Surf, Lightnin' Hopkins and Magic Slim, among others. Based in New Orleans, a city with storied musical heritage, director Shainee Gabel actually features two of the city's most important young recording artists, Grayson Capps and Theresa Anderson, in cameo roles. In Gabel's own words: “Music is a huge part of the movie because music is a huge part of New Orleans.It's every- where, and it's all really good.” In addition, for the first time since his starring role in Grease, John Travolta is featured singing both on screen and on soundtrack. Already being rumored as front runner for an Academy Award nomination, the soundtrack to A Love Song For Bobby Long is an essential component in what is shaping up to be one of this year's surprise independent films.
